Communication During Inclement Weather

Inclement Weather Resource

We want to ensure you are fully informed about how we will communicate any weather-related schedule changes.

When making decisions about inclement weather, our top priority is the safety of our students, whether they’re driving, riding, walking, or waiting for a bus, and our bus drivers, staff, and families. We carefully consider factors such as the timing and details of the forecast.

We understand that unexpected schedule changes can create challenges for families. To balance these concerns, we strive to avoid making decisions hastily while still giving you as much notice as possible. If the forecast doesn’t allow for us to make a decision the evening prior, our goal is to finalize decisions with enough time to begin communicating with families and staff by approximately 6 a.m. on the day of the weather event.

Here’s How We Will Keep You Informed

  • Automated Notifications (for parents/guardians and staff): Phone, email, and/or text messages will be sent to parents/guardians using the contact information provided in Sapphire. Please make sure your contact information in Sapphire is up to date so you receive all emergency notifications. Staff members will receive notifications based on the information provided to Human Resources.

  • Website Updates: Barring any major power outage, we will post updates on the district’s website.

  • Social Media: Information will also be shared on our official social media accounts (@MASDwildcats on Facebook and Instagram).

  • News Outlets: Local news outlets will only be notified if time permits and typically only in cases of unscheduled early dismissals.

Weather-Related Schedule Options

Unless otherwise stated in our communication, we will typically operate on one of the following schedules:

  1. Two-Hour Delay: We will continue to monitor forecasts during delays and update families/staff promptly if the schedule needs to shift to a closure or Remote Learning Day.

  2. Closure (Traditional Snow Day): The first weather-related closure of this school year will be a traditional snow day, which will be made up on Thursday, April 17, 2025, if needed.

  3. Remote Learning Day: Subsequent closures will transition to a Remote Learning Day unless otherwise specified. On these days, families can expect communication from their child’s school and/or teacher regarding learning details and expectations for the day.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we work to ensure timely and effective communication throughout the winter season.
