good evening and Welcome to our virtual back to school night is Mr Met I'm the Explorer team math teacher and things are going to look different this year first of all I want to thank you for the teacher kid to the pier over the summer we were dealing with a lot of things but we were all looking forward to this having your children back in school something to ask you this year is going to be much different than any previous year that we've had to teach and your kids have had to learn it's forced us to look at different methods of teaching and education into their lives so we ask that your please be patient as we're trying these new things solve them are going to work some of them may not work but we learn by our mistakes and that's a life lesson that the kids needs the expectations that I have for your children I expect him to be prepared for class everyday that's bringing a pencil bringing their notebooks bringing their homework to class and certainly bringing their charge laptops to school that's all going to help them be successful this year we asked that they be punctual that's not too much of a concern this year as they're moving class to class as a group and they're not wandering the building independently they are doing a very good job so far of getting to class on time and again that's going to help them be successful positive we talked a lot about choosing your attitude I'm having a positive attitude about school in about learning will go a very long way and be persistent they're going to be challenged you're not only a mask last but throughout their day with difficult challenges and we ask that even though they're they're tough challenges and and we're asking him to do harder harder material that they stick with it and not give up another life lesson we also ask them to be kind and nice to each other with the world the way it is we certainly could use a lot more of that and if they stay now being nice and kind to each other they can only enhance the the relationships that they make with their classmates in with their teachers we have to say be respectful be helpful if they see someone struggling help them out if they see someone that could use a helping hand be there be the friend that's a person may need 1 expectation that I asked the students to be for them to be successful to be an active learner come to class be ready to participate in any discussions that we have volunteer to answer questions you might not think it's right or if they may know it's not right if I ask him to put a problem on the board and it's incorrect that is a perfect opportunity for them to get better and to learn steak and of course we want them to do their very best each and every day be the best you you can be with the change in how we are this year we set up Google classrooms I set up two classrooms for the two groups of students that we have a group my Google Classroom activity code or Google Classroom code an Q3 VL IQ by Group B 2300 yh3 determine are depending on which group your student or your child is in your encouraged to visit to the Google classroom and join as a guardian you can get all the action all the alerts and all of the postings that the students get so you can help them stay on task both of the groups have the exact same information I found it simpler to break it up into two groups so I wouldn't have to look through so many entries trying to figure out who had done their assignments who has not done their time I can look under group a determine which students in group a have and have not done their assignments and again same thing for Group B they do have exactly the same information so we're going to take a look at this group a is Google my Google classroom for group a your students I'm going to class work and it will show them all the incident all the assignments that send for them to do for the next time that we come in and meet so information that's posted today would be expected to be done by Thursday there's an introduction to the lesson which gives them an opportunity to show me what they already know there's a direct instruction my video that I created or a video that I found that has pertinent information are some practice they want after they have the learning there's some practice to see if they understand each section also has some support material which supplement instruction and then I have a for understanding that's sort of like their homework they will do the check for understanding and that's a good indicator for me which students really took good notes that were paying attention during the videos that if they had a question maybe went back and take it took another look at the instruction and then did the practice then when they come in the next time we will have an in-class activity to do and generally that activity I have also something to do with the instruction that they were given online so it's almost like a flipped classroom atmosphere where they're doing their instruction at home and doing the learning or the practice here at the school I'm going to try and keep the newest material or the current material on the the top of the page so we are currently looking at the intersection of chapter water unit 1 the next will come factors and multiples when we get two factors and multiples the integer section I'll move that down out of the way so that the newest material will be on the top are you okay the goose is looking forward to your kids coming back to school and I'm really now that I got a chance to know them a little bit I'm very much looking forward to working with him the remainder of the year if it was for any reason you need to contact me emails are the most effective method for for you to get in touch with me email addresses m m o r r e t at mbgsd. Org I hope you enjoyed my little video I hope you trust that I will have your children's best interest at heart I want your kids to feel safe and cared for while they're in my classroom and I'll do my best to make sure that they have a successful 6th grade math year thank you for watching and enjoy your evening thank you
