Dear Mechanicsburg Middle School Families,
Greetings Mechanicsburg Middle School Families! I am hopeful this letter finds you and your family well during these trying times. It is hard to wrap my head around the fact that we have not seen students in the building since last March. I cannot express in words the excitement we all feel to get back into the building and start the 2020-21 school year. I am absolutely looking forward to meeting our 6th grade students, our new students to the building and district and certainly those 7th and 8th graders who have all grown 6 inches since this past spring. In fact, I do not know if Carson (our service dog) and I have ever been more excited to see people than we are now!
Along with all of the positive emotions, this new beginning will be quite different than any year I have experienced as an educator and parent. As with any year, however, the safety of our students will remain our number one goal and we certainly have planned for many new processes and procedures to identify with this pandemic. Additionally, our faculty and staff have been planning diligently to create an educational experience that brings learning to life for our students. They have been participating in a variety of professional development to enhance the overall instructional experience for students for face to face and remote learning. Most importantly, the M.M.S. faculty and staff understands how imperative building positive relationships is with each and every student. I am honored to work with the most dedicated and committed staff who I know will be there for your child and embrace the change process that many of us will learn together during these times.
My hopes is that you find our Reopening Plan for M.M.S (https://middleschool.mbgsd.org/apps/news/article/1274210) a valuable resource for you to better understand the adjustments we have made for a hybrid model to ensure the safest environment possible for our students and staff. Knowing our ultimate goal is to for the students to return full time, we are going to make the most of every opportunity we have this year. I am also hopeful you discuss this information with your child so he/she feels more comfortable and confident to begin the school year in the most positive way.
We will be in communication with you as student schedules become finalized closer to the week before school begins. We want to have as much information as possible so minimal changes are made prior to the start of the year. Please do not hesitate to contact our office to speak to your grade level counselor or an administrator to answer any of your questions. Do not every forget that we are all in this TOGETHER and appreciate your never-ending support! Go Wildcats and we will see the kids on September 8th (Group A) and 9th (Group B)J .
Yours in Education,
Joel Yohn, M.Ed.
