Principal's Message

Dear Mechanicsburg Middle School Families,

Greetings!  On behalf of the Mechanicsburg Middle School teachers and administration, I would like to officially welcome you to the 2018-19 school year.  As you know, there are many changes occurring throughout the entire Mechanicsburg Area School District and we are excited to embrace many of our own at M.M.S. this school year!

Wednesday, August 22, 2018, marks the first day back to school for students.  Please be reminded the middle school day will now run from at 8:30 AM-3:30 PM.  Children can begin entering the school building at 7:55 AM.  I would ask you to consider taking time between now and then with your child to set some academic and social goals for the school year along with a plan to support the progress along the way.  These conversations can set the stage for a very positive year and the more planning that occurs provides the best opportunity for a positive start to his/her journey.  Always remember you are the most influential person in your child’s life!

In order for your child to be best prepared for the first day of school, please visit the Mechanicsburg Middle School on our district website at http://middleschool.mbgsd.org under “News & Announcements” for information regarding 6th, 7th and 8th grade Welcome Letters and School Supply Lists.  Also, be sure you are aware of your child’s newly updated bus pick-up and drop-off information which can be found on the District homepage by going to http://www.mbgsd.org – then click district services and then click transportation.

Please remind your child that all electronic devices, including cell phones, must be turned off when entering the school building and may not be turned back on until 3:30 PM.  Students need to follow the dress code which can be referenced in the Mechanicsburg Area School District Code of Conduct.  Thank you for your support as we continue to create a safe physical, emotional and social environment for every student at the same time striving for educational excellence.

Effective communication between home and school is a critical component to the educational process.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school via email or call us at (717) 691-4560.

Thanks again for your continued support as we all strive towards common goals for our kids.  I am looking forward to a terrific 2018-19 school year!

Yours in Education,

Joel A. Yohn, M.Ed.
