Katie E. George-Awua, School Counselor

I am currently entering my 12th year as a School Counselor and I am incredibly excited to start my seventh year with the Mechanicsburg Middle School Counseling Department as the 7th grade counselor this year!  I graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 2004.  I am a proud Wildcat and I am thankful to be working here.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Millersville University in 2008 and I earned my Master’s of Education in School Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011.

I am here to support your child and promote emotional, personal, academic and social success.  I am looking forward to working with you and your child this coming year!

Emily E. Normand, School Counselor

I am beginning my journey at MMS.  I have been a professional school counselor for 14 years.  I am a ‘00 Graduate of MASH and am thrilled to be working back “home.”  I am excited to start my 1st year with the Mechanicsburg Middle School Counseling Department!

I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, as well as my Master’s Degree in Counseling from Shippensburg University.  I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor and am in the process of obtaining my License.

I am also a resident of Mechanicsburg and live with my two daughters and my cat, Gilbert.  I am excited to support your child with their social, emotional and academic success at MMS.  Let’s make this year a great one!

Kristie J. Socha, School Counselor

This will be my 15th year serving as a school counselor at MMS.  I have been a professional school counselor for 18 years.  I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Services, College of Education from The Pennsylvania State University and obtained my Master’s degree in Secondary School Counseling from Shippensburg University.  In addition to my role as school counselor, I am the School Counseling Team Liaison, a STAR (SAP) team member, and participate on district-wide committees for the planning and development of programs.

It is an honor to be your child’s school counselor and I will do my best to support your child’s academic, social, and emotional development during their years at MMS.

Elizabeth A. Morrow, Secretary

This is my 22nd year at MMS.  In addition to being the Secretary for the Counseling Department, I am the Assistant Director for MMS Leadership Corps (MLK Day of Service).  Prior to redirecting my career to the Mechanicsburg School District, I spent 3 1/2 years with a local insurance services company.  There I held the positions of Administrative Associate and Senior Support Representative.

I received my Associates degree from Harrisburg Area Community College and my Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the Pennsylvania State University.  I currently reside in Mechanicsburg with my husband, our daughter, and our dog.

I look forward to getting to know the students of MMS and look forward to seeing them succeed personally, socially, and academically.
